Our standards

We try to:

use the most precise locality, neighbourhood, ward and venue name available;
use official Welsh names where they are natural and accurate, such as Cardiff / Caerdydd, Cardiff Bay / Bae Caerdydd and Cardiff Council / Cyngor Caerdydd;
distinguish Cardiff from the Vale of Glamorgan, Newport, Caerphilly County, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Bridgend, Swansea, Bristol, wider South Wales and the Cardiff Capital Region;
distinguish Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, Cardiff Bus, Transport for Wales and the South Wales Metro as separate transport entities;
check live information against official or first-party sources;
identify opinion, sponsored content, affiliate content and advertising clearly;
avoid unsupported rankings, stereotypes and claims about communities;
use first-hand experience only where it genuinely happened;
correct material errors promptly;
treat businesses, residents and contributors fairly.

We do not force Welsh words into copy where they are not relevant, and we do not turn South Wales or Cardiff Capital Region statistics into Cardiff-only facts. We do not collapse Cathays, Roath, Pontcanna, Canton, Riverside, Grangetown, Llandaff, Heath, Ely, Penylan and the other neighbourhoods into one generic local area.

Commercial independence

Payment, free entry, hospitality, affiliate commission or a commercial relationship must not guarantee a positive editorial outcome. Sponsored or commissioned content will be labelled. Advertisers do not receive control over independent editorial decisions, subject to factual review of claims about their own business.

Time-sensitive information

Event dates, prices, opening hours, rail and bus services, airport links, roadworks, stadium access, hospital services, venue arrangements, planning status and regeneration timelines may change. We include an update date where useful and encourage readers to confirm important details directly.
